Coupang Eats may show you dinner in English before you know whether your account can place the order. Check account access first. Payment options may become visible only after you enter an address and add food, so review them at that stage—before submitting an order, not before you can reach the checkout.
This is a Coupang Eats eligibility guide, not a guide to the Coupang shopping app. For delivery-address preparation and hotel collection, start with the Korea food-delivery guide.
Quick answer
The official customer-app listing confirms English support. Official Coupang materials describe using a Coupang account for Eats; the sources reviewed do not establish a separate tourist guest-checkout procedure. English interface, an ordinary account, paid WOW membership and accepted payment are not the same thing.[1][2][3]
Check language and account access first, then complete any verification when the app requests it and review payment options for the actual order. Screens may appear in a different order. Buying a Korean SIM or joining WOW does not guarantee that a remaining requirement will be met.
Check account access first, then review payment options before placing an order
| Checkpoint | When and what to check | When to stop |
|---|---|---|
| English | At the start and checkout: can you read the requirements? | Important labels remain unclear. |
| Account | Before committing to a meal: can you access your own account? | Registration or recovery cannot be completed. |
| Phone or identity | When requested: can you complete this specific step? | It requires details you do not hold or a number you cannot access. |
| Payment | Once shown for your real address and basket: review the available option and its conditions. | No suitable option appears or support must clarify eligibility. |
If payment options appear only after an address and basket are entered, use your real delivery details and food you would actually order to reach that screen. Review the route and total before submitting. A displayed card option does not guarantee issuer approval. Do not place a charge merely to test eligibility.
Keep a private note of the step where you stopped so support can answer a specific question. A screenshot of the exact error is more useful than “foreigners cannot order,” provided personal details are hidden.
Put the customer app into English
Use Coupang Eats – Food Delivery, not a store-management or delivery-partner app. The App Store listing identifies the customer app and its supported languages.[1]
On Android, Google's documented route is Settings → System → Languages → App Languages. Select Eats and English only if the app appears in your device's list; not every app participates, and manufacturers may use different labels.[5]
On iPhone, look for a language preference under the app's entry in Settings. If it is not offered, Apple's General → Language & Region instructions describe changing or adding device languages, not a verified Eats-specific menu.[6]
After changing a preference, reopen the app before ordering and check the result. Keep the Korean branch name visible for identification. An English interface does not guarantee that every restaurant's instructions or support conversation is translated.
Use your own account; test the requested verification
Coupang's security FAQ explicitly discusses a person using a Coupang account for Eats only. You do not need to make a shopping purchase to establish whether that same account works in Eats.[3]
Sign in or register using the options the app actually presents. Keep access to the registered email and number. The account FAQ explains that inability to complete required mobile verification can limit service access.[2]
There are different possible outcomes. You may reach the address and payment screens; you may be asked to verify a number; or you may encounter a more restrictive identity check. Record which one you see. This guide does not turn a single screen into a universal residence-card requirement for all customers.
If the app accepts your number but no message arrives, use the SMS receive-test guide. If it rejects your identity or eligibility, receiving more texts is not the same as meeting that requirement. A tourist SIM is not a universal workaround.
For official support, ask: 쿠팡이츠에서 이 번호로 가입이나 인증을 진행할 수 있나요? — “Can I register or complete verification in Coupang Eats with this number?” Never send a verification code to another person who offers to complete it for you.
Check cards inside Eats, not in Coupang shopping
A card saved elsewhere in Coupang is not sufficient evidence. The official WOW FAQ notes that some overseas cards usable for membership fees are not usable for Eats payments.[7]
At checkout, inspect the options available for this order and account. If an overseas-card path is offered, read its conditions. Complete any issuer authentication yourself only when you intend to place the order. This review provides no universal accepted-card list, and user reviews are not used to establish one.
A precise support question is: “For my Eats account, is a card issued in __ on the __ network supported through this payment option? Does the route require another verification step?” Name the issuing country and network, not your complete card number.
If there is an unexplained card entry after an attempt, leave eligibility testing and use the payment-pending but no-order worksheet. That page handles the mismatch between records; it does not promise to make an unsupported card work.
Decide about WOW only after account eligibility
An ordinary account is not a paid WOW subscription. Coupang has advertised Eats benefits for ordinary members separately from WOW; a past promotion does not establish today's fee or your eligibility.[7][8]
Read the checkout total and any subscription renewal terms independently. Paying for WOW is not proof that phone verification will pass or that the same overseas card will pay for food. Do not subscribe merely to test an assumption about account access.
Review the final order before submitting
Confirm the delivery address, selected restaurant and delivery versus pickup mode, then review the meal options and total. Eats advertises both delivery and pickup; choosing pickup means you must collect from the restaurant.[4]
Submit once and look for the order's reference and status. Keep that record accessible. Address preparation and collection phrases are in the main delivery guide, while restaurant-counter pickup is covered in Takeout in Korea.
For an Eats problem, start with the official help associated with the order. Its listing provides eatshelp@coupang.com, but this is not a guarantee of immediate or English-language assistance.[4]
Frequently asked questions
Can tourists order in English without signing up?
English is documented. A separate tourist guest checkout was not established in the sources reviewed. Plan around the documented account route, not an imagined guest button.[1][2][3]
Does a Korean phone number guarantee that all four gates will pass?
No. The account requirements and payment method remain separate. Buy a communication product for a confirmed need, not as an untested solution to every checkout screen.
What is the alternative when my account cannot complete verification?
Baemin's developer documents an overseas-number guest path. Use the Baemin guest-ordering walkthrough for that different service, or use in-person takeout. Do not look for Baemin's guest menu inside Eats.[9]
Your next move
Open the Eats customer app and check your account access. If checkout needs an address and basket, add only the details required for a meal you genuinely intend to buy. Review any requested verification, available payment option and total, then submit only if you want the order. If a requirement remains unclear, stop and ask official support or choose another ordering method.
